Multimedia entertainment company Square Enix is working to modify its organizational structure and optimize company resource allocation to support a renewed focus on implementing artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, Web3 and cloud technologies in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Square Enix president Takashi Kiryu announced<\/a> the ongoing changes in a blog post titled \u201cA New Year\u2019s Letter from the President.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe previously identified three focus investment fields, namely blockchain entertainment\/Web 3.0, AI, and the cloud. Last year we redefined our overarching mission and goals for these three fields. We are currently working to modify our organizational structure and optimize our resource allocations to support these efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Kiryu also stated that Square Enix intends to be \u201caggressive in applying AI and other cutting-edge technologies\u201d to its content development and publishing functions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company president further implied that the company would embrace generative AI technologies. Citing ChatGPT specifically, Kiryu said AI had gone beyond the realm of academic debate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI believe that generative AI has the potential not only to reshape what we create, but also to fundamentally change the processes by which we create, including programming.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The letter briefly mentioned blockchain and Web3 technologies, though Kiryu failed to expand on the company\u2019s forthcoming ambitions in these spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Square Enix is perhaps best known for its Final Fantasy video game franchise. It\u2019s also among the largest developers and publishers, with titles integrating blockchain and Web 3 technologies with traditional video games. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Cointelegraph recently reported, Square Enix\u00a0launched a nonfungible token-based project in December<\/a>\u00a02023 called \u201cSymbiogenesis.\u201d According to the company, this new IP is an interactive art experience involving collectibles and storytelling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
