Today Standard Chartered<\/a> in China said<\/a> it is amongst the first foreign banks to take part in the digital yuan business pilot. It has started providing digital RMB exchange and redemption services via City Bank Clearing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Chinese arm of BNP Paribas<\/a> started offering wallet services to corporate clients in May. And in July the Chinese arm of Singapore\u2019s DBS Bank<\/a> launched a merchant collection solution for the eCNY.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cStandard Chartered is optimistic about the development prospects of (the) digital renminbi and looks forward to continuously expanding the application scenarios of (the) digital renminbi, including cross-border merchant payments, trade financing and supply chain financing,\u201d said Zhang Xiaolei, President of Standard Chartered China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hong Kong arm of the bank previously took part in mBridge<\/a>, the cross border CBDC initiative that includes the central banks of China, Hong Kong, Thailand and the UAE. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Standard Chartered<\/a> is participating in an array of different kinds of digital currency work. It recently joined a trial for Hong Kong\u2019s e-HKD CBDC<\/a>. It\u2019s involved in the BIS Project Dynamo<\/a> work which explores stablecoin-like Digital Trade Tokens to empower SME trade finance. Recently Standard Chartered took part in a UDPN trial<\/a> with Deutsche Bank for stablecoin payments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s also an investor in the blockchain multi currency payment network\u00a0Partior<\/a>. And one of its subsidiaries Zodia Markets just started stablecoin-based FX.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
